Daddys and Boys
Truly, nothing makes me smile with such blissful content ment than to see my boys having their moments with their daddy. Two nights ago I stood in my bathroom brushing my teeth and heard the sweetest sounds from the room next door. Stan often puts Sean to bed with a story. If I put him to bed, Sean asks me to read. If Stan puts him to bed, Sean usually requests a story "from his mouth." Stan makes up great stories for the boys. Seth's usually involved "then we heard something making noises in the bush!" Sean's usually involve a kid called, "Seanie pie, real cool guy." Anyway, they had already finished the story by the time I was turning in, and Stan began singing one of the songs he has sang to the boys forever - Red River Valley. Only this time there was a tiny voice singing it with him. It was almost the cutest thing I've ever heard. A little 4 year old singing this quietly in bed next to the man he loves most in the whole wide world.
From this valley they say you are going
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our path for a while
Come and sit by my side if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
But remember the Red River Valley
And the cowboy who loved you so true
Won't you think of the valley you're leaving
Oh how lonely, how sad it will be?
Oh think of the fond heart you're breaking
And the grief you are causing to me
As you go to your home by the ocean
May you never forget those sweet hours
That we spent in the Red River Valley
And the love we exchanged mid the flowers.
