The Palms

I'm in choir at church, so I sing lots of great songs. I love hymns especially. But tomorrow I look forward to one of my very favorites, The Palms. It tells of Jesus, fulfilling prophecy of the Old Testament, entering Jerusalem and being crowned King by the crowd who yelled, "Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!" They layed palm branches at his feet.

O'er all the way green palms and blossoms gay
Are strewn this day in festal preparation
Where Jesus comes to wipe our tears a way
E'en now the throng to welcome Him prepare

Join all and sing, His name declare,
Let ev'ry voice resound with acclamation
Hosanna! Praise to the Lord!
Bless Him who cometh to bring us salvation!

His word goes forth, and people by its might

Once more regain freedom from degradation
Humanity doth give to each his right,
While those in darkness are restored to light

Join all and sing, His name declare,
Let ev'ry voice resound with accalmation
Hosanna! Praise to the Lord!
Bless Him who cometh to bring us salvation!

Sing and rejoice. O blest Jerusalem,
Of all thy songs sing the emancipation;
Through boundless love, the Christ of Bethlehem
Brings forth the hope to thee forevermore.
Join all and sing, His name divine,
Let ev'ry voice resound with acclamation,
Hosanna! Praised be the Lord,
Bless Him who cometh to bring us salvation.

By the end of the week the people were calling for His death. On Maundy Thursday we remember the Last Supper and His betrayal. On Good Friday we remember His arrest, trial, crucifixtion, death and burial. And on Easter Sunday we joyfully remember His rising from His grave - He's alive!

The entire Palm Sunday account can be found in Matthew 21:1-11, Mark 11:1-11, Luke 19:28-44 and John 12:12-19.

I don't know what got into our pastoral staff, but there was not a word about Palm Sunday yesterday nor about Easter next Sunday. I was disappointed. At least they didn't mention that bunny, either.

Have a delightful Easter week.
