Politic...tock...tic...tock...
I'm tired. These candidates and parties and commercials and running mates and banter have bored and confused me so much that I'm no longer sure what I look for in a candidate. It used to be that I could imagine "that guy" I'd love to vote for, but now...oh, I don't know.
Should I vote party line? Should I vote for the one who speaks the best? Should I vote for the guy my gut likes? (This would be great, if my gut actually had a preference.) Should I vote for the party my conscience likes? (That would be great if the party my conscience favors were one of the two that actually have a chance.) Should I catch a terrible cold and be bedridden that Tuesday?
It's just that it seems with every presidential election I feel more and more hopeless.
Is it because I'm old?
Is it because I don't know enough of the "facts?"
Is it because Tweedledee and Tweedledum are getting dum-mer?
~sigh~ I'm going to close my eyes and try to conjure up that perfect candidate. Maybe he'll be able to answer some of these questions for me. Yes, for starters, my perfect candidate would be able to answer a question.

The first time I'd heard of Annie Lamott was on Fresh Air (NPR) way way back in - gosh, 1994? I can't remember what year Operating Instructions came out. I was almost home and had listened to Terri Gross interviewing Ms Lamott for quite a while and decided I HAD to go and buy the book. So I went to our little local store and (perhaps b/c it was in the bay area and she is from Mill Valley), they had the book. I was in love. Man, what a writer she is. I think my favorite of her books is _Hard Laughter_.
