My sister, a woman who eats approximately 1-2 granola bars a year wandered into the kitchen for a snack and decided to open a box of granola bars that her husband purchased last night at Shop Rite.

Approximately 1:38pm, my sister finishes the first bar in the packet while doing work on her computer and contemplates having the second.

At 1:40, said sister begins to eat the second bar.

At 1:42, bar #2 is half gone, phone rings. Sister looks at i.d. and it reads "Shop Rate." She doesn't recognize the name and turns back to her computer, allowing the machine to pick it up.

Somewhere around 1:41pm the voice on the machine begins, as sister crunches away, "This is Shop Rite. Our records show that you purchased so and so granola bars on Tuesday, February 2nd. Be aware that this item has been recalled and is in danger of containing salmonella.

True story.
The End.

Very scary. Is she OK?

Well there haven't been any illnesses from the place where the bars came from, it's just that there must be an ingredient that could be contaminated by that whole peanut butter recall that is going on right now. So she isn't expecting anything, but is still glad her kids didn't eat any of them yet.

I had to throw out a lot of stuff in our pantry in the truck that was recalled! Craig loves his peanut butter! Better safe than sorry. Scary moment for your sister!

I grew up with skippy and like it best, but my husband is a jiff (jif?) person and insisted we buy that. He doesn't force many issues when it comes to food, but this one was evidently very important to him so I caved seeing as I don't even eat peanut butter any more. It's the one food that gives me immediate indigestion...tmi again. This blog is chock full of too much personal digestive information.
